sights and sounds!

Here are two videos from my first summer recital... Annie was kind enough to capture these pieces on her digital camera. Enjoy!

Philip Glass - "Etude VI"

J.S. Bach - "Prelude and Fugue XVI" (from Book 1 of Das Wolhtemperierte Klavier)

The video of "Hallelujah Junction" is coming soon! For now, you can download the recording of last Friday's performance here!
(also included: "China Gates" by John Adams and "Wichita Vortex Sutra" by Philip Glass... two of my all-time favorites!)

things my fingerlings need to play

philip glass composed his piano etudes to provide new music for his solo piano concerts in addition to expanding his piano technique with music that would enhance and challenge his playing.

glass has never released or published the music for these pieces and maintains performance rights to them. as of yesterday, my new project is to transcribe and learn one of his etudes every day. yesterday i completed etude v.

as i am writing this, i notice that someone on youtube has apparently taken it upon themselves to transcribe some of the etudes and POST THE SCORE along with the music in the video. ultimate moral quandary: this is total copyright infringement.... i think i will stick to my ears....

music things

i've never released an album, but i have dozens of songs that i've made laying around on my computer that i don't know what to do with...UNTIL NOW!

other than the rhodes (which is a logic plugin), all of the instruments on these tracks are real. i've either sampled large chunks of audio and spliced it up, or recorded individual notes and put them into personalized multi-instruments using Kontakt that i then play through a midi controller (aka, a keyboard.)

for glitches/beats, i usually manually sequence the samples in logic, but i've also started experimenting with its drum machine recently.
